In 1876, Petter Arbraham and Anna Greta Saari opened an inn for travellers on the site where the lodge stands today. It was in the middle of the trade route between Enari and the districts around Varanger Fjord. Many reindeer raider, (caravans of reindeer-pulled sleds linked together) full of fish from Varanger and game from Enari passed by the lodge and many travellers came over the mountains. Reindeer herdsmen used to stay at the lodge – as they still do – when they were grazing their herds or were slaughtering stock in Neiden. The husband and wife team Kåre and Taimi Sivertsen and their son Jan-Kåre er the third and fourth generations to run the lodge.

Neiden is still the place where the paths cross, and is first and foremost an Eldorado for lovers of outdoor living. Here it is possible to experience challenges all year round and to seek out nature's magic as well as its peace and beauty. Its close proximity to the Arctic Ocean as well as the mountains and rivers provides plenty of opportunities for angling and recreation. The place is surrounded by numerous fishing lakes and beautiful areas ideal for game hunting. In addition to this, the Neiden mountain lodge lies on the banks of the Neiden River, one of the best salmon fishing rivers in Norway.

The main building by the Neiden River consists of the mountain lodge and 14 wooden huts, two buildings with saunas, showers and toilets, a large outside barbecue with a roof over it and a wood-fired outdoor bathtub. The lodge also has a cafeteria, which serves food based on local traditions and raw materials. The cafeteria is fully licensed. Up in the mountains we have 6 mountain cabins with saunas.

Neiden is 50 km from Kirkenes, the nearest town with an airport and access to Hurgtigruten. There is a daily bus from Kirkenes and the airport to Neiden. We are only 5 km from Finland and excellent snowmobile runs connectors to Finland. It is about 180 km to Ivalo in Finland, and there is also a daily bus connection in this direction. The Russian border is about 70 km to the east. We can help organise transport all the way to the lodge if desired both from Kirkenes, Høybuktmoen airport or from the bus stop in Neiden.
