Skapma is the Sami word for the autumn/early winter season. This
is the richest period in Samiland, just before the dark sets in.
During this period, grouse shooting is but one of many possibilities.
In early skapma the Plateau is brimming with cloudberries and fungi
for you to gather. Skapma is the time when the reindeer have to
be moved. Mollisjok forms part of the richly traditional verde-relationship
with the reindeer herdsmen who graze their herds in the area. Verde
is a term used by the institution which unites the reindeer herdsmen
and the sedentary Sami, by means of exchange and kinship links.
Under extreme conditions they needed, and still need, each other.
Food and shelter, favours and paternity were exchanged laying the
foundations of lasting relationships between Sami reindeer herdsmen
and sedentary Sami. At Mollisjok, things are like this to this day.
If your stay at Mollisjok you will come into close contact with
the local siida, where people, nature and animals form a
synthesis. They balanced in a way seldom seen elewhere. We can only
recommend that you come and learn from the differentness all this
has to offer.
