WILDERNESS CAMP

In the summer season from 1 July to 12 August there will be a permanent wilderness camp outside Alta, on the banks of Storvannet (great water). The lake is one of nature’s gems and the fishing is superb. The usual catch is røje and trout of about a kilo (2.2 lbs). The biggest trout caught in 2000 was 3.7 kilos (just over 8 lbs). The camp consists of a storlávvu, a large reindeer-skin tent, a gapahuk (a shelter made from materials at hand) with a barbecue, tents and smaller lávvus. We have 10 canoes at the camp as well as fishing tackle for hire. If you’ve never spent the night in a lávvu, now is your chance to try. The setup suits everyone, whether you want to canoe or fish.

Parking on the E6 near the HV Centre on Kvenvikmoen. From there you walk about 1 km along a marked path to the camp. Families with children are allowed to drive all the way in, as are the handicapped.

The stay costs:
- NOK 400 for families (Parents and two children)
- NOK 200 for individualss
- You can use canoes, fishing tackle in the camp for a whole day. If you want sleep in a lávvu it costs NOK 300 for a family and NOK 150 for individuals.

Sea fishing
We can help you to arrange sea fishing trips on board the M/K Bjørklund. This boat is based in Øksfjordbotn. From here it is no distance to richly stocked fishing grounds and a meeting with a wild coastal landscape. Capacity 20 persons. We have the tackle you will need and the boat is equipped with an echo sounder.

Ice fishing
The season is from November 2001 to mid-May 2002.

Salmon fishing
In the rivers of Finnmark. The rivers in Porsanger are our speciality, and from the 2001 season we have trained 14 fishing guides on the rivers Lakselv, Stabburselv and Børselv. All have a reputation as superb salmon-fishing rivers. We have close connections and can arrange several types of accommodation. We can book hotel rooms, camping or cabins to order.

Trout/Arctic charr fishing
Most of us have fished in the rivers and lakes since childhood. 50 years of experience arranging fishing trips on the Finnmark plateau has given us intimate knowledge of the rivers and lakes where the fishing is good. In the summer of 1999 we arranged a TV tour for Norwegian television with Bård Tufte Johansen and Lars Lenth.

We can help you realise all your angling dreams, all you have to do is ask!

Canoeing expeditions
Combined canoeing and fishing or pure canoing expeditions are an excellent way to experience the plateau. A canoeing trip makes for a gentle journey to the good life, and living in a lávvu enhances the experience and the memory.

Small-game shooting
We can take you to shooting grounds where you can relax completely. From the autumn of 2001, three professional grouse shooters and their dogs will be working with us as guides. Getting out there in good time will assure you a good shoot. The shoot in Finnmark starts on 10 September, so have to book early if you want to secure the assistance of our three guides and their dogs.

Equipment rental
We have at our disposition eight inflatable and collapsible canoes (Zodiac Indio and Ally) and ten plastic canoes. All come with life jackets and two pairs of paddles per canoe.

CALENDAR OF ACTIVITIES

Finnmark camp
Open during the season 1 July - 12 August
Arctic charr fishing:
The season is from 25 June - 15 August. After this the Arctic charr catch is nothing special.

Trout fishing
The season is a long one, starting in early June. This fishing can last right until the end of September. The best trout fishing, however, is in July and August.

News update on fishing conditions, summer 2001-09-05
Snow conditions meant the rivers were rather full. Rain in June kept water levels up. In late June we had afternoon showers in inner Finnmark, which is extremely good as far as fishing is concerned. Warm weather from mid-June onwards hurried up the hatching of insects, improving the fishing.
Salmon fishing was in full swing at Midsummer. This fishing has been quite excellent. Finnmark has 54 rivers to choose from, some of them the best in Norway.
