A Thousand Miles of Fishing

SUMMER
4, 8
or 15 days
Season: July 1 – August 31.

PROGRAMME
DAY I
Arrival at Alta airport. Information and meeting with guide. Departure for Iesjávri. Just about an hour after arrival at Alta airport, you will be able to start casting with your fly or spinner rod. This is when the adventure begins. We set up camp and start the simple good life by gathering fuel for the campfire, getting water and helping with dinner preparations. The trip is a voyage of discovery for the participants. You will try for large trout on Iesjávri, and on this gigantic lake you will also be able to use motorboats. Dinner and lodging in a lavvu – a circular Sami tent with a fireplace in the middle.

DAY II
Breakfast, then pack and get ready to canoe down Iesjohka. The upper part of the river is dominated by large grayling, but you might also be able to catch char or trout. The canoe trip is a leisurely one, with no hard paddling.
Our next stop is Nedre Mollesjohka Mountain Lodge, where Per Edvard Johnsen is our host. It is always nice to get indoors and sleep in a proper bed. Since the fishing is exciting and varied in this area, we will stay for two or three nights. You can fish for feisty trout from the river bank near the lodge or in the pools just below. Near the lodge, in the pools below the waterfall, the salmon fishing begins.

DAYS III and IV
We stay at the Mountain Lodge to enjoy the fishing, scenery and wildlife. Our diet will consist of baked freshly caught trout and various dishes made from reindeer meat. We will spend two nights at Nedre Mollisjok.

DAYS V and VI
Breakfast and get ready for the departure. The first leg of our journey is by sport utility vehicle past the great waterfall. Then we get into our canoes again, and the salmon fishing adventure on the Iesjohka river begins. There is, however, also trout in the same pools. The canoe trip downstream towards Cuovdamohki is mostly leisurely and pleasant. We set up camp approximately midway between Cuovdamohki and Jergul, next to a good fishing pool, and spend the night in a lavvu.

DAY VII
Breakfast and departure downriver in the direction of Jergul Asttu. In the afternoon we check into the mountain lodge and enjoy a welcome drink. Afterwards we take a sauna and a bath in the hot tub on the bank of Iesjohka. Sami banquet. Social evening and fishing in the river pools close to the lodge. Accommodation at the lodge.

DAY VIII
We spend two nights in Jergul Asttu. From here we can take daytrips to fishing lakes located some distance away from the river. But the river by the mountain lodge will probably keep the attention of salmon fishermen for the rest of the day. In the late afternoon or evening we return to the lodge for dinner and stay the night.

DAY IX
After breakfast the trip continues by rented car or minibus to Karasjok, where you will visit the Sami Parliament and Sami Museum. Lunch is served in Gammen restaurant. After Karasjok we continue along the Tana River to Levajok Mountain Lodge for a short break for coffee and a meal. The journey then continues to Storfossen in Tana. In the salmon pool below Storfossen waterfall you can see large salmon swimming about. They are not always easy to catch, but with a little luck and the help of our local contact, you will certainly have a chance. Our fishing luck will determine the duration of our stay in Tana. When we have finished fishing we start on our journey to Polmak. We arrive at Polmakmoen Inn in the early evening. Our host, Ester Utsi, will receive us with exiting information about the place and what lies in store for us. We do not want to reveal too much, but we can promise you a magical evening. You will have a chance to enjoy a special kind of sauna, and both dinner and breakfast will consist of Arctic dishes in a atmosphere of stories and tales.
Lodging in high-standard gamme huts .

DAY X
Breakfast at the Inn.
Before our trip continues, we try out the fishing in Polmak Lake. The morning is spent fishing and doing other outdoor activities, accompanied by local guides. The fishing here always offers pleasant surprises. For lunch we will be served our catch of freshly caught trout or salmon.
After lunch, the trip continues to Neiden Mountain Lodge, where our host will be Jan Kåre Sivertsen. Our stay in Neiden will give us plenty of opportunities for fishing, such as salmon fishing and deep-sea fishing in Varanger Fjord. In season, you will also get a chance to watch the fascinating käppälä or cast-net fishing in Skoltefossen waterfall. This day also includes a sea-fishing trip in the morning and salmon fishing in the Neiden River in the afternoon and evening. Afterwards there will be opportunities for a bath in the hot tub and then dinner in the mountain lodge, where we will also spend the night.

DAYS XI and XII
After breakfast our journey continues to Tana and across the Ifjord Mountain to Lakselv, where we will get fresh provisions and take a look at local life. Lunch at a café. Then we proceed directly to a salmon camp at Lakselva. Using this camp as our base, we will spend the evening/night fishing for sea char at Brennelva River. We can also fish for salmon in Lakselva, near our base camp. The second day here, participants can choose what kind of fishing they want to do. We spend two nights in lavvus or tents in our camp by Lakselva.

DAY XIII
Breakfast and depart for Alta. On our way from Lakselv we stop before Stabbursnes to try our luck at sea char fishing on the sandbanks. It is also possible to try fishing for sea char at the mouth of Stabburselva River.
Upon our arrival in Alta in the afternoon we check into a hotel, where there will be a farewell dinner and we will sum up the trip.
