WINTER
4 days/3 nights
Season: December to 5. May, weather and trails permitting.

PROGRAMME
Day 1

  • Arrival in Alta by plane.
  • Bus to Gargia Mountain Lodge, where you are given clothes and gear for a snowmobile ride to the Sami village of Maze. This is a 50km ride, which takes approximately 2,5 hours.
  • Dinner is served in a gamme (turf hut), where you will also stay the night.

Day 2

  • Breakfast.
  • Sami games, involving lassoing, wood collecting, finding water, making coffee, finding appropriate Sami clothing, and a reindeer race.
  • Snowmobile ride to Jergul Asttu. The trip is 50km and takes about 3,5 hours, including a stop for coffee at Sjusjavre Mountain Lodge.
  • Dinner in Jergul Asttu.
  • Lodging in well-equipped cabins.

Day 3

  • Breakfast.
  • Snowmobile ride to Assebakti. This is a shorter trip of approx. 10km which takes 30 mins.
  • Bus ride to Karasjok, the Sami capital. Visit to the Sápmi Sameland centre, where you can see, for example, the Sami Magic Theatre or Stallobakti, as it is known in Sami. Guided tour of the grand new Sami Parliament and, if you so wish, also the Sami Collections. Visit to the Sami Museum.
  • Lunch in Storgammen (the large turf hut) in Karasjok.
  • Return to Assebakti by bus.
  • Snowmobile ride to Nedre Mollisjok Mountain Lodge, with a coffee break in Ravnastue Lodge. The trip is 50km and takes approximately 4,5 hours.
  • Dinner at Nedre Mollisjok.
  • Lodging in cabins.

Day 4

  • Breakfast.
  • Snowmobile ride to Gargia Mountain Lodge with a lunch stop in Maze. This is the longest leg of the whole journey, 90km in all, and it takes approximately 6 hours.
  • Bus to Alta Airport.
  • Departure.

This tour can also be combined with ice fishing or a visit to a reindeer herd.
